Dear Parents
We have had a wonderful start to the new school year. The K2 floor is buzzing with energy and the children are ready to learn, whilst the majority of the K1s have settled well into the new routines with just a handful of new children still adjusting to the new environment. Thank you for your support in making this smooth start to the academic year.
We anticipate that more children will be travelling on the school bus from now on and there will be fewer non-bus children/ walkers. However, we have reviewed our dismissal routines and would ask for your cooperation to ensure a smooth transition at home time. Please follow our staff’s instructions to queue up by class and collect your child one by one. Always have your pick-up cards with you when you collect your child at school or from the school bus for safety reasons. We are still learning to remember everyone looks and to match with which child.
If you plan to change your child's going home arrangements, you must inform the bus company and Hillside Admin Team (via the app) or call us on 2540-006 for any last-minute changes.
Kind regards
Audrey and the Hillside Team
The teachers have started blogging about the last two weeks of school. Please click on the Class Blog tile on the ESF App to access your child’s class blog. The teachers will be updating the blog fortnightly with some photos to share and provide you with some information on your child’s recent learning in class.
Our PYP Coordinator, Brenda, and our Chinese teacher, Yammi, will also guest blog every now and then to share other relevant information about the children’s learning. Please do visit the blogs regularly to keep up with the latest class happenings.
Over the past few days, we have been liaising with Kwoon Chung (KCM), our outsourced bus company. From our understanding, more families have signed up for the bus service To accommodate new subscriptions from September onwards, KCM might need some time to re-assign larger buses or re-route some of the bus lines; hence, they are yet to confirm the final start date for these new sign-ups.
Knowing KCM services numerous schools across Hong Kong, we have requested that they pay attention to details, particularly to do with safety concerns. For example, all parties holding the most up-to-date and accurate information: name lists, bus timetables, and bus stops. We also provided feedback on communication - while we appreciate that they are inundated with enquiries, it is important to maintain and provide timely communication.
At the start of every school year, we observe that it will take some time for the city to absorb the school traffic, and for everyone to adjust to the bus routes and routines. We will continue to follow up with KCM as we work through the bus arrangements, and we ask you to please bear with us in the interim.
A warm reminder the Year 1 transfer form may be found on the ESF Gateway (If you forgot your password, please contact our admin team for assistance).

Our leadership team will host the Zoom calls. We will be sharing ideas for activities and routines to support families at home. At the end of the session, parents will have the opportunity to stay on the call to connect, share tips or chat.
The first session will be on 8 September, with two timeslots options.
WELLBEING: Maslow before Bloom! As the new school year begins, it is important to develop the children's social and emotional learning, including building connections and relationships.

Last term, a number of families took part in in a research project by Professor Eva Chen and her research team at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). They would like to invite a few more children between ages 4 and 7 years to participate online! The project focuses on how membership in social groups (such as ethnicity) can affect the way young children interact with others when they reach pre-primary school age, when they begin to meet and befriend classmates outside of their immediate family. Relatively little research has been conducted to understand children’s socialization processes outside of Western countries; thus, it is of great importance to conduct research in a culturally diverse Asian city like Hong Kong. You and your child’s help with the project will contribute to the understanding of child development and the training of a new generation of researchers in Hong Kong.
