Dear Hillside Families
To families who celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, we hope you had an enjoyable gathering with your loved ones. To all our families, we hope you enjoyed a pleasant long weekend.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture. The children have been learning about different aspects of this festival during their Chinese sessions in the past week. Our Chinese teacher shared cultural stories, and many children made mooncakes and lanterns as part of the festivities.
Thank you to all the K2 parent volunteers who came to support the festive activities. As the children settle into our routines, we hope to introduce more community events to include our parent community - look out for the sign-ups!
Warm regards
Audrey
Both K1 & K2 PTC sign-ups are available. Please check the separate app message with further information and make an appointment at your earliest convenience. You will have a choice of 2 days, and appointments are about 10-15 minutes long for each child. Please appreciate that these dates are when we have arranged cover for teachers, and we would like to keep to them as much as possible. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us on 2540-0066.
These meetings will take place via Zoom, so please be reminded to Zoom from a quiet space to avoid poor audio connections. Please also note classes will continue as usual for the children throughout the PTC week.
One of our annual community events is watching a live theatre production at the HK Academy of Performing Arts (HKAPA). We have always found these live theatre shows by ABA Productions Ltd, organiser of KidsFest, to be of an extremely high standard, along with having characters from well-loved books targeted to the age group of our children.
We know many returning parents are keen to see if we will attend the show this year. Unfortunately for us, the performances are overbooked after the suspension of this event during COVID; we could not secure a school booking for Hillside this year.
The ESF Communications Team will soon visit all 22 ESF schools to update our photo library following the removal of the mask mandate and particular school renovations.
The photos will be used for internal or external use, such as celebrating accomplishments, professional development materials, visual content for campus materials, or general marketing and communication. As a safeguarding measure, we will remove the children's name badges on the day.
We do not have the exact date of the photoshoot yet, but it should be within this term. You may be interested in the ESF PICS Statement for your reference. Please let us know if you have any questions.
As you may know, Hillside is an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) accredited institution. IB World Schools are part of a strong community and network of schools and educators who collaborate around the world. As each school grows and develops, each IB World School is regularly evaluated to ensure that the IB Standards and Practices are upheld and that we provide the best education for our young learners. It is a formal reflective process involving all stakeholders within the school community. The process will reflect on our purpose, culture, learning and teaching approaches, and the overall environment, including systems and structures.
The emphasis of the IB evaluation process will come from the school's year-long self-study process and the school's Programme Development Plan (PDP). The final stage of this process will involve a team of educators representing the IB visiting Hillside to conduct an in-depth, three-day school-based evaluation visit (virtually).
Transparency and open communication are central to our partnership with parents, and we want to keep you well-informed throughout this evaluation process. We will share updates, important dates, and any necessary information to ensure you are fully aware of the evaluation process. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming evaluation, please do not hesitate to reach out to Brenda, our PYP Coordinator.
