Dear Hillside Families
It's a newsletter with lots of dates and info today. Looking ahead to this term, we have several things planned. Please keep an eye out on the "Upcoming Dates" section of the newsletter. A few upcoming events include a parent webinar on Play & Emotions, inclusion/ excursions, Sports Fun Day, and Lunar New Year dress-up. Further details will follow as we approach each event.
Warm regards
Audrey
We noticed some wear and tear on our old playground surface, making the playground potentially slippery, especially during damp or rainy seasons.
We are pleased to announce that the playground has been successfully resurfaced over the holidays. However, we wanted to bring to your attention that the newly resurfaced playground might feel a bit coarse initially. This change in texture is intended to enhance traction and minimise slipping, but unfortunately, it does come with a temporary downfall.
As with any play area, there is still a possibility of children tripping or falling. In the event of such an incident, we want to inform you that the coarser surface may cause minor grazes or abrasions if a child's skin comes into contact with it. We understand that this might be a concern for you as parents, and we assure you that we are taking proactive steps to minimise the risk of injuries.
We would like to emphasise that this is a transitional period, and the new surface will reach an optimal balance between traction and comfort over time. As children continue to play on the resurfaced playground, the coarse texture will gradually become smoother, reducing the potential for grazes.
Our staff will be closely monitoring the playground during outdoor play to ensure the children's safety, adding knee guards for particular activities.. We will remain vigilant in identifying any potential hazards and taking immediate action to address them.
If your child experiences any minor injuries, our first-aid-trained staff will be available to provide immediate care. We value the safety and wellbeing of our students above all else, and we appreciate your understanding during this transitional period.
To celebrate the Lunar New Year, we are now seeking parent volunteers who feel comfortable supporting Open Play stations using the Chinese language. You will be helping children with following instructions and supporting their play in art, music & movement in Chinese. If you're interested, please sign up using the following links:
Please note the call-out sign-up sheets are open until 23 January.
Play & Emotions - 30 January, Tuesday, 1pm
In continuing to build on our understanding of children's play, this webinar will explore strategies and tools for developing your child's social communication skills and how to support challenging emotions that may arise during play.

K2 children will be making a start to their new unit of inquiry, "Sharing the Planet," focusing on respect and responsibility for their local environment. To enhance their research skills and connect with nature, we have organised a nature walk at Bowen Road. The schedule for this is:
29 January (Mon): Tiger class
30 January (Tues): Turtle class
31 January (Wed): Dragon class
1 February (Thurs): Gecko class
We are also inviting K2 parent volunteers to come in and share their interests and expertise relevant to this unit. Further details about both the Bowen Road excursion and parent expertise sharing will be sent through a separate app message.
