Dear Hillside Families
Welcome to Term 3, our favourite term of the year! We trust that all of you had a fantastic Spring break and that your children are now refreshed and eager to embark on a fulfilling term of learning brimming with excitement and fun!
We encourage you to visit your class blogs to stay well-informed about your child's class updates and the latest Unit of Inquiry. Please click on the Class Blog tile on the ESF App to access your child's class blog. The teachers (class and Chinese teachers) will update the blog with photos to share and provide information on your child's recent learning in class. We hope you will take the time to explore these blogs and class albums at home, fostering a stronger connection between the school and your family.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who actively participated and volunteered during the last term. We feel incredibly fortunate to have such enthusiastic parental involvement, as it greatly enriches the teaching and learning experiences. More opportunities for parent involvement will be available. Please remember to sign up before the end of the year, especially for our K2 families!
With the hot and humid season coming, it is always a challenge to secure a weatherproof venue for a school community event, but we will surely have celebrations of learning in some shape or form - watch this space!
Warm regards
Audrey
As we enter Term 3 and transition into the Spring/Summer season, we want to remind you of our weather policy, which prioritises the safety and well-being of all our children.
These months can bring unpredictable weather conditions, including rainstorms, typhoons, and other erratic weather in Hong Kong. In the event of severe weather, we may need to make adjustments to our school day to ensure the safety of our entire community. Our policy adheres to the guidelines set by the relevant authorities (EDB and HKO). Rest assured that we will closely monitor weather conditions and update you through the ESF App messaging system.
As a friendly reminder, please ensure your children are dressed appropriately for Spring and summer weather and equipped with necessary protection such as sunscreen, hats, and mosquito repellent. Additionally, please ensure that your contact information is up-to-date so that we can reach you promptly in case of an emergency.
We understand the immense value of hands-on learning experiences for children, and cooking provides an excellent avenue to teach them about nutrition, science, and even math skills! Rest assured, we will take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our children by strictly adhering to food handling and sanitation guidelines.
We encourage you to have conversations with your child regarding the significance of hygiene and thorough handwashing before and after engaging in cooking or any sensory activities. If your child has any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please inform us promptly so we can make appropriate accommodations.
Thank you for your continuous support and cooperation. We look forward to an enriching and joyous Term 3 together!
The ESF transition plans are well underway for our K2 families. All primary schools will be in touch with their new Y1 families about induction plans before the end of the month. In addition, collaborative conversations between the kindergarten and schools will continue these next few weeks.
Please look out for an email from your feeder school with details on transition activities and the ESF Transition Day on 31 May. During this day, parents will accompany their K2 child to the primary school for familiarisation.
In response to the positive feedback we received from parents regarding the vision screening and recognising the importance of early intervention, we have scheduled a Hearing Screening at Hillside with ENTlaser Hearing and Speech Therapy Centre. The audiologists will visit Hillside on 25 and 26 April.
TEST - Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
What it is: OAEs are sounds given off by the inner ear in response to an auditory stimuli. These sounds are produced by the hair cells and can be measured automatically by a handheld portable device. The measured frequencies are 2k, 3k, 4k and 5k Hz. These frequencies are tested as they are most susceptible to hearing loss and crucial for speech and language development.
Duration: approximately 3-4 minutes per child
Results: If a child passes, results indicate that he/she has normal hearing (or mild hearing loss at most) and do not have any middle ear issues. If a child fails, results indicate that he/she needs to have a full diagnostic test at clinic to determine whether there is a presence of middle ear issues (which can be corrected with medication) or sensorineural hearing loss and determine whether there is a need for aural rehabilitation.
The screening is optional, and registration is via this Eventbrite link: [Web Link] for parents.
If you want to sign your child up for this optional screening, please register by 19 April.
