Dear Hillside Families
We had a fantastic turnout for our K1 Open Play this week! It was wonderful to see so many extended family members, helpers, and grandparents join us. Inviting them to participate creates an inclusive and nurturing environment where these individuals can truly appreciate their unique role in our children's lives. Our goal is to showcase the children's fantastic progress and support their transfer of these skills from school to the home setting.
The K2 students are buzzing with enthusiasm as they prepare for their Celebration Day. They have been discussing ideas and choosing songs and are already practising their performances to showcase their talents for mums and dads. We can't wait to see the joy and pride on their faces as they take the stage!
As we approach the end of the school year, we are implementing several initiatives to help the children with their transition into the new school year. Whether from K1 into K2 or K2 into Y1, there are plans to help foster resilience, confidence, and independence. Please read the "Transition to the Next Year Level" section below to learn more.
Warm regards
Audrey
For K2 children, we have been collaborating with our feeder schools and working with our primary colleagues. For example, we have shared student notes, and primary school teachers came to visit the children at kindergarten. We're pleased to know that many ESF schools offer several induction activities/ visits to orient families before the summer, and K2 families should have received communications from the primary schools already.
Our ESF kindergarten children have consistently earned praise from our primary colleagues for their strong inquiry skills and independence in accessing learning. This feedback reinforces our confidence in their ability to transition smoothly to primary school.
To support our current K1s moving up to K2s, we will be keeping the children together in the same class. Keeping a class of children together as they progress to the next grade level offers several benefits:
It's important to note that while keeping a class together can have numerous benefits, it may not always be feasible or appropriate in certain situations, such as when student dynamics are unhealthy or when there is a need for significant academic or social adjustments.
In addition to this, we are working on an induction website to help the K1 children prepare for their new K2 experience. We are also planning opportunities for the K1 children to meet their new K2 teachers and visit their new classrooms before the summer. More details will come in the coming weeks.
We are delighted to invite parents to join our K1 End-of-Year Celebration of Learning - Art Day, which will be held on 19 June at Hillside for all classes. Please take note of the following details:
We look forward to the children sharing their learning with you on this special day!
We are taking steps to be more sustainable as a school. As such, we would like to provide a forum for interested parents to donate and purchase preloved uniform items at a nominal price. All proceeds will go to enhancing our incursion provision for the children.
If you are interested in donating, please send the preloved uniform items to school any time from now onwards.

The Paris Olympics are almost upon us. Every four years, athletes from every country, from all walks of life and of all faiths and none come together to celebrate the remarkable nature of humanity. This year, our ESF art exhibition is all about humans and their extraordinary power to achieve. Every single day, people in our schools, in our homes and in our communities are doing remarkable things, and this is what we seek to celebrate in this show.
Many of our children across K1 & K2 have actively participated in creating art pieces for the exhibition. We are so proud of them and cannot wait to see their art at City Hall!
