9 Mar: Parent Webinar - Sleep Solutions
15-17 Mar: School Photo
28 May: ESF Wide Transition Day
Dear Parents
It has been wonderful to see the school come back to life this past week. We can feel the buzz and energy! We can hear the laughter, chatter and the sound of children enjoying their learning with their friends and teachers again. We were amazed by the way the children confidently and independently headed upstairs, it was as if they have been doing it every day.
We are pleased that EDB included the kindergartens in this phase of class resumption. We look forward, with anticipation, to continuing the safe return of even more children.
Kind regards
Audrey
Head of School
Kowloon Junior School is holding an online Book Fair with Fun to Read bookstore. They have extended an additional 5% discount on their books to all ESF families. Please use the code: ESF5
This will be effective 1-7 March so take advantage of this wonderful offer.
We have scheduled Peter Inglis, a professional photographer, to come on 15, 16, 17 March to take photos of children in school on those respective days. We have worked with Peter in the past, and he has been fantastic with the children. Peter has a selection of puppets and tricks, along with lots of patience to make the children smile. The children are now developing their confidence and characters; I’m sure there will be many fun sessions throughout the day.
Due to the pandemic, Peter will be taking photographs of individual children and siblings only. We will ask for a collage format for class photos.
*Please note that we will not force children to be photographed against their wishes.
On behalf of everyone at Hillside, please let us all wish Stephanie, our long-serving administrator, good luck for the future and bid her a happy farewell. Stephie will be leaving Hillside due to being offered another position at a Music Institute to pursue her music interest.
Many families have gotten to know Stephie as our front-of-house over the years. We will miss her honesty, dedication and strength. We respect her decision, and we want to thank her for all her contributions and work for the community over the years. If you pass by, do find a chance to say good-bye to over the next few days.

Responding to parent enquiries on sleep routines, particularly around disruptions to sleep patterns due to changes in home situations. We’ve invited Gemma Fisk, Sleep Consultant to speak with us. Gemma is a mother and a certified Infant Sleep Specialist who has worked with little ones and their families across Hong Kong and the UK. During the sleep workshop, she will discuss with you:
The benefits of sleep and how much sleep our children really need
Creating the perfect sleep inducing environment
Identifying sleep disorders
Should you sleep train and is it really necessary for every family
Background info:
Gemma is a Mother and Certified Infant Sleep Consultant based in Hong Kong that works with children aged from newborn to 6 years old. She believes firmly in a holistic and gentle approach to help our children to sleep better through plenty of love, comfort and reassurance.
As she was once the sleep deprived, desperate mother who would've done anything for sleep when her first daughter was waking every hour at night, she has an empathic approach and therefore a strong connection with the families she works with.
After becoming certified as an Infant Sleep Consultant, she has helped hundreds of families across Hong Kong to get their precious sleep back. To continue with her love of helping others, she is now studying Adult Sleep Behavioural Therapy and hopes to use this new qualification to specifically help women suffering from sleep loss during pregnancy as well as postpartum sleep challenges.
Gemma describes helping and supporting families through such a precious moment in their lives is a privilege and a huge passion of hers. She hopes to continue to teach families that sleep doesn't need to be a dreaded battle every night and is the best gift we can give to ourselves as exhausted parents as well as our children.
