Dear Parents
It’s hard to believe that it’s the last week of term! I want to thank the incredible team here at Hillside for the first term. I am always grateful for their continued dedication and professionalism during these trying times. More importantly, the team has consistently put the needs of children first and have continued to put our children at the centre of all we do.
I would also like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to all the parents who supported us in different ways this term. Your contributions from facilitating play dates outside of school, being a parent storyteller in class, and attending our parent webinars are appreciated. We are extremely grateful for the support and communication we have continued to receive from our parent community.
We know that families are separated in a lot of situations. Many families in our community, staff, children, and parents won’t be able to travel, but we hope you can relax and enjoy the loved ones with you and connect with those abroad.
We wish you a very merry and safe holiday with your families. We look forward to 2022 with optimism and comfort in the knowledge that we can ensure a joyful and inclusive learning community for children to thrive at Hillside.
To finish the term with some special festive cheer, please remind your child that Wednesday is a special ‘Dress down for Christmas’ day.
Warm regards
Audrey
15 December - Dress Down Day
We would like to invite all children to come dressed down in festive or casual clothing on Wednesday. We will be engaging in various Christmas related activities this week, so you might see some holiday arts coming home.
16 December - Hillside Winter Picnic
Please be reminded of our Winter Picnic at Repulse Bay on Thursday. If you haven't yet, please take a moment to complete the eNotice to confirm your attendance. We look forward to a fun day with a treasure hunt and picnic at the beach.
The Term 2 sign-up for Parent Storyteller is now open! To support children's international-mindedness and language development, we welcome you to choose a story in your mother tongue if you wish! Stories are so powerful as they act as both mirrors (reflecting children's own experiences) and doors (where new ideas widen children's knowledge and understandings) to the world.
Please access the sign-up via the ESF App to review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up.
[Recording] Parent Hack Session 5: Importance of Play
This was a very important session to help our careers support the children’s social communication and play skills. Brenda has kindly prepared this 1-page "handout" for our community, please feel free to share it with other family members (grandparents/ domestic helpers). You can access the video recording via this video LINK or the slides HERE.
Thank you for supporting our Parent Hack Series this term. You may access all the previous Parent Hacks in this playlist.
It has been a Hillside tradition to foster the spirit of giving every Christmas. Not only does this tradition create a connection with our learning community, but it also transfers our learning into an “action.”
Action is an integral part of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and an opportunity for children to make a meaningful contribution to their community and also be change-makers.
We would like to take action and give back to our local community by supporting Rebooked, a non-profit social enterprise founded and managed by students! Their goal is to extend the shelf life of a book by providing a convenient and eco-friendly platform for books to be reused and enjoyed by other young readers. The books are also shared with NGOs and community partners as a way to support early literacy for underprivileged children.
Building on our sustainability principles, please donate slightly used pre-loved books to bring joy to a new reader. Our Christmas appeal will run until Wednesday 15 December. We encourage the children to personally place the books in our collection boxes under our Christmas tree at reception.
If you would like to know more about our Christmas Appeal Rebooked, please see the extract below or watch this short video of Stripey & Kuma visiting Rebooked.
