27 May: ESF Transition Day (K2-Y1)
13-16 June: K2 Graduation (Early plans, details TBC)
24 June - 22 August: Summer Break
Dear Parents
With a few more weeks before the summer, we want these to remain in-person, safe and enjoyable. Please do keep unwell children at home to rest before it manifests into a full-on URTI. Let's keep up our healthy habits and amp up our vitamins!
On this note of in-person events, we are still waiting for the final approval, but things are looking optimistic that we might be able to arrange for parents to join our K2 End of Year Celebration (Graduation). So please pencil in your calendars for the week of 13 June. I'm hoping to receive a confirmation soon - watch this space!
Kind regards
Audrey
We have been collaborating with our feeder schools and working with our primary colleagues. For example, we have started sharing some student notes and will have round-robin collaboration meetings between year group teachers to plan for the next phase together. We're pleased to know that the ESF transition day will be going ahead towards the end of May, and K2 families should have received communications from our primary schools already.
The Hillside children have always been praised (by our primary colleagues) for their inquiry skills and independence to access learning. Now that F2F classes have resumed, we have been focusing on social communication and self-management skills.
We have been inquiring into the impact of distance learning on the children's development, so we reached out to our primary colleagues for feedback on their expectations and how the last K2 cohort settled into Y1. Please take a few minutes to watch this video on our findings - we hope you find it helpful.
To support our current K1s moving up to K2s, we are working on a webpage to help the K1 children prepare for their new K2 experience. We are also planning an opportunity for the K1 to meet their new K2 teachers and friends. As well as visit their new classroom before the summer. More details to come in the coming weeks.
We've been receiving some class grouping requests from parents. Given the disruptive school year, we'll try our best to keep the clusters together as much as possible, but please note it's not guaranteed as we have to consider other factors to balance out the class lists.
One question that kept arising regarding Y1 transition application was address and zoning. K2 transitioning to Y1 are processed according to current residential address at the time of application in September. Any change of residential address following submission of application and prior to entry to Y1 will not be considered. Hence current K1 families need to ensure their residential address on Gateway is correct. If you have moved, a change request on Gateway is required, with the proper two address proof documents verified on the school level.
