Dear Hillside Families
We hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the warmer season. As we near the end of the academic year, we have a lot of events and activities planned for the upcoming weeks that we're excited to share with you. We look forward to reconnecting with the wider community and providing opportunities for our families to engage in both internal and external events. Please take a look at the ESF-wide events listed below.
We also want to remind you to post any questions or wonderings about your child's transition to the next year-level on our "Wonder Wall." We hope to provide helpful information to help your family prepare for the new academic year as we compile a list of frequently asked questions. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
Warm regards
Audrey
With the start of the hot weather season in Hong Kong, it is important to revisit our 'No Hat – No Play' Sun Protection Policy.
Hats are essential for outdoor play and should be accessible in your child's school bag daily. Water is available for children at all times. We strongly advise you to apply sunscreen on your child before arriving at school.
Please note we follow the EDB and HK Observatory guidelines regarding hot weather warnings. When the weather is too hot for outdoor play, our teachers will be advised, and indoor play will be rearranged to accommodate these times.
Hillside has a lovely big outdoor play area. If your child is susceptible to mosquito bites, we highly encourage applying insect repellent or patches on your child. To alleviate the problem of mosquitoes outdoors, we have a mosquito lantern installed and industrial fans to keep the air circulating. Regular fogging is carried out weekly.
We are really excited to invite you to our upcoming Arts Open Day on 7 & 8 June. This is a great opportunity for you to come into school and share in your child's learning as they showcase their skills and understandings from our current Unit of Inquiry, "How We Express Ourselves." Join in the fun and learn alongside them as they engage in different ways of expressing themselves, including through art, music, dance, and storytelling.
We encourage all parents to participate and engage in the learning experience alongside their child. If you play a musical instrument, we are very keen for you to share your talent with the children during your visit! We also have a keyboard for any parent pianists to use. Please email your class teacher to make arrangements for this.
Please look out for a separate app message for further information and to sign up. We look forward to seeing you for some shared learning and exploration!
We are delighted to be restarting our ESF community events programme again. As well as the first ESF E-Sports Games (details below), we also plan to have an in-person ESF Art Exhibition under the theme: Reimagining, New Beginnings.
This exhibition will showcase our students' effort and artistic talents across the ESF Schools, from kindergarten through secondary school, PIS and special school.
Hillside has been fortunate enough to have some of our children's artwork selected for display at the exhibit.
If you are interested in visiting the exhibition, please find the details below:

When: 7-11 June. (6pm - 8pm on 7 June; 9am until 8pm from 8 - 10 June and 9am until 6pm on 11 June)

We are pleased to share the exciting news that ESF is staging its largest inter-school Esports Tournament on Saturday, 3 June (secondary teams) and Sunday, 4 June (upper primary teams). We know our kindergartens aren't taking part, but our families might be interested to know about the exciting things happening across the organisation.
This incredible event will see 25 student teams from across 18 of our primary and secondary schools come together to demonstrate their skills using this year's chosen computer game - Minecraft. Minecraft was selected by our teachers and students, who are big fans of the game, which encourages players to collaborate creatively and problem-solve while tackling building challenges and immersing themselves in imaginative adventure-style puzzles. The tournament will be live-streamed on the ESF Facebook page so please join us in watching and supporting our talented students with encouraging comments and Likes.
We are delighted to invite parents to join our K2 End of Year Celebration of Learning on Tuesday, 13 June. The children have developed new skills, made new friends, and grown in so many ways, and we are proud of all that they have accomplished. We look forward to celebrating with you and your child on this special day!
Please note the following details:
As it is a specially arranged day, children and parents will only attend during their allocated celebration time. Please note your timeslots below.
We appreciate that your child cannot catch the school bus for one of the journeys (to/from school); however, we ask for your understanding and assistance on this special occasion.
