Dear Hillside Families
I cannot believe we're into June already! With less than a month to go, the children are getting more and more excited about moving on to the next stage of their learning.
I trust the ESF Transition Day went well for our K2 families; many children are still talking about it this week. The different playgrounds are a highlight for many of the children. I hope the weather holds out and we can have nice weather for our K2 End of Year Celebration. Please be reminded of the details in the section below.
Regardless of K1 or K2, one of the things parents will need to prepare for the children's transition is uniforms. We plan to introduce a pop-up store, "ReUniform", for families to donate and purchase preloved uniforms as part of our sustainability efforts. Please see the section below for details.
Warm regards
Audrey
We will be finalising incoming K2 class lists soon, but we've had several recent withdrawals, so some friendship groups and the boy/ girl balance were affected, and we had to do some reshuffling. It would be appreciated if any families who will not be continuing at Hillside for K2 could let us know as soon as possible to assist us with our planning.
We planned a date later this month for the children to meet their new teachers and visit their new classrooms. We hope to share this information with parents within the next week.
In a recent TV interview and SCMP interview, Professor Ivan Hung Fan-ngai from the University of Hong Kong, a government pandemic adviser, has said, "Children should not wear masks in classrooms as they can hinder speech development, adding that vaccination and good personal hygiene are the best defences against Covid-19 and other respiratory infections." He explained, "young learners will struggle to imitate teachers' mouth movements when pronouncing words if they wear masks."
While we understand that wearing a mask can help prevent the spread of illness, it is not a substitute for staying home when sick. When a child is feeling unwell, it is important that they stay home to rest and recover. Therefore, please do not send children to school (with a mask) if they have a fever and/or other respiratory illness symptoms. In addition, sending a sick child to school with a mask on can increase the risk of spreading illness to others, including teachers and classmates. Hence, we will send children home if they come to school with a fever, runny nose or a continuous cough. These procedures are in place to protect everyone at school. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school community healthy and safe.
We are taking steps to be more sustainable as a school. As such, we would like to provide a forum for interested parents to donate and purchase pre-loved uniform items at a nominal price. All proceeds will go to enhancing our music programme for the children.
If you are interested in donating, please send the pre-loved uniform items to school any time from now onwards.
If you are interested in purchasing, please visit Hillside on 23, 26, 27 June. More details on the attached flyer.
We are delighted to invite parents to join our K2 End of Year Celebration of Learning on Tuesday, 13 June. The children have developed new skills, made new friends, and grown in so many ways, and we are proud of all that they have accomplished. We look forward to celebrating with you and your child on this special day!
Please note the following details:
As it is a specially arranged day, children and parents will only attend during their allocated celebration time. Please note your timeslots below.
We appreciate that your child cannot catch the school bus for one of the journeys (to/from school); however, we ask for your understanding and assistance on this special occasion.
