Dear Hillside Families
As we dive into the Spring term, we are all too familiar with the challenges of unpredictable weather and the busy times that come along with them. With rain showers and yo-yo temperatures, it's very important to remain vigilant against illnesses. We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and make adjustments to our activities as needed. Please continue to reinforce good hygiene practices with the children, such as hand washing and mask handling. By instilling these habits, we aim to minimise the risk of any potential outbreaks.
Despite the weather, our calendar is packed with upcoming events and activities for the children. From incursions and excursions to lion dance performances to parent-teacher conferences and volunteering activities, there are many opportunities to come together as a community and celebrate the progress and achievements of our children.
Warm regards
Audrey
Please be reminded of our Sports Fun Day Sports Fun Day on Thursday, 8 February, at the Indian Recreation Club . If you haven't yet, please take a moment to complete the eNotice to confirm your attendance. We look forward to a community day together with some fun activities and games. The children have been practising many of the games and will be well-versed on the event day. Here's the access map.
The weather forecast is cloudy with a few rain patches. A decision will be made by Wednesday morning to decide if the weather is unfavourable (too wet and too cold).
If the event is cancelled, it will be a normal school day, and school buses will run as usual.
With a few weeks until the Lunar New Year, our Chinese teachers have started exploring various cultural aspects with the children. As part of our celebrations, we have booked the Bradbury School lion dance team to perform for our children on Wednesday, 7 February. We invite everyone to come in bright colours or festive clothing on this day.
Monday, 19 February, will be an ESF-wide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) day. All ESF K1-Y2 staff (Teachers and Educational Assistants) will be involved in an Early Years Conference. This day will be a collaborative day across the ESF foundation, focused on sharing best practices, engaging with experts, and aligning learning and teaching practices.
Sign-ups for all the events below have been sent through a separate App message specific to your class. Please kindly take a thorough look.
K1 Parent Participation
We are pleased to invite parents to join your child's school learning after the Lunar New Year holiday. Both 'storyteller' and 'Open Days' time slots for Term 2 are now open for sign-up.
K2 Parent Participation
Term 2 'Open Play' slots are also now available for sign-up.
Term 2 Parent-Teacher Conferences
Both K1 & K2 PTC sign-ups are available now. You will have a choice of 2 days, and appointments are about 10-15 minutes long for each child. Please appreciate that these dates are when we have arranged cover for teachers, and we would like to keep to them as much as possible. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us on 2540-0066.
These meetings will take place via Zoom, so please be reminded to Zoom from a quiet space to avoid poor audio connections. Please also note classes will continue as usual for the children throughout the PTC week.
This was a very important session to help our carers support the children's social communication and play skills. Brenda has kindly prepared this 1-page "handout" for our community. Please feel free to share it with other family members (grandparents/ domestic helpers). You can access the video recording via this video LINK or the slides HERE. We value your thoughts and feedback and would greatly appreciate you giving us some time to fill out this survey. Your input will help us to plan future parent sessions.
We want to share some information about an upcoming charity event that holds a special place in our community. "Freya's Got Balls" is an event organised by one of the members of our community whose child has been diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic condition - Tay Sach's Disease - the 1st in Hong Kong. The event aims to raise funds and awareness for charities that support families who receive the heartbreaking news that there is no cure for their child's condition.
Freya's Got Balls will take place on 2 March at the Hong Kong Football Club Sports Hall, which will be transformed into the World's Greatest Bingo Fundraiser! This event promises to be a memorable night filled with laughter, fun, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
