Dear Hillside Families
As Mother's Day approaches, we want to extend warm wishes to those who celebrate this special day. We acknowledge that not all families observe the same holidays, which is why we take this opportunity to highlight the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Hillside. Please click to access the full ESF DEI Statement.
We are committed to creating inclusive classroom environments where every child and family feels welcomed, respected, and valued. We believe in promoting and honouring the differences in people's backgrounds, cultures, and identities. We achieve this through experiences that celebrate diversity, such as reading books with diverse characters and families, integrating cultural traditions and holidays into our curriculum, and encouraging children to share their unique experiences and viewpoints. It's important for us to distinguish between learning about holidays and actively celebrating them, recognising that people may observe the same holiday in various ways.
We encourage children to express their appreciation for all the special people in their lives. We believe that by embracing our differences and sharing our gratitude, we foster a sense of unity and inclusivity within our school community.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment at Hillside.
Warm regards
Audrey
The K1 children have been inquiring into the year-long unit "Who We Are," with a particular focus on developing social and self-management skills as they progress through the year. In Term 1 & 2, parents had opportunities to witness their child's progress. This term, we would love for your child's other important grown-ups to come in and see for themselves the progress they've achieved; for example, it may be your child's helper, uncle/aunt, or grandparent. Our goal is for them to see the tremendous progress your child has made and to support the transfer of these skills from school to the home setting. Term 3 Open Days will run between 20-23 May, so please look out for a separate app message to sign up.
We are delighted to invite parents to join our K1 End-of-Year Celebration of Learning, which will be held on 19 June at Hillside for all classes. The children have fully immersed themselves in the unit How We Express Ourselves, trying new experiences, learning new skills and we are proud of all that they have accomplished. We look forward to the children sharing their learning with you this special day!
