Dear Hillside Families
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who took the time to complete the survey on "Understanding Your Child's Learning at School." Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us as we work towards enhancing our educational offerings.
Based on the survey responses, the majority of parents found Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs) to be the most helpful, closely followed by shared learning days and class blogs. We are now reviewing the feedback to find ways to incorporate open days on a termly basis. Please remember to save the dates for this term's upcoming events.
When asked, "What information is important to you in terms of understanding your child's progress and development?" It was also noted that the children's social-emotional development was the most important, followed by school enjoyment, attitude to learning and behaviour. At the heart of our educational philosophy lies the understanding that we teach the child, not just the curriculum. We acknowledge and celebrate the uniqueness of each child. We are dedicated to providing personalised and engaging learning experiences catering to individual needs and interests. This commitment is reflected in our class blogs and class albums, aiming to equip your child with the necessary skills, knowledge, and character traits for success in an ever-changing world.
We are committed to maintaining a balance in our information-sharing methods to effectively support your child's growth and development. In the upcoming weeks, there will be numerous opportunities for parent engagement. We encourage your active involvement in these events further to strengthen our partnership in your child's educational journey.
Thank you for your ongoing support, collaboration, and trust in us.
Warm regards
Audrey
We understand that recent rainy days have resulted in an increase in mosquitoes and midges around our large outdoor play area, which borders a beautiful natural green space. We want to assure parents that we are actively addressing this issue to ensure the wellbeing of our students.
First and foremost, we have a dedicated exterminator who works with us year-round. They conduct weekly fogging in the playground, drains, and other common breeding grounds to control mosquito populations. In response to the current situation, we have requested our exterminator to increase the frequency of fogging and also incorporate mosquito sand to combat the issue effectively. We have also reported this issue to the HK Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. Both parties came earlier this week in response to our situation.
To further protect the children, we highly recommend that everyone applies insect repellent before coming to school. While natural repellents can be effective, they may require more frequent reapplication compared to chemical products. For the convenience of our children, we have observed that roll-on repellents are child-friendly and easy for them to use independently. Additionally, applying repellent to clothing rather than directly to the skin can provide an extra layer of protection, as some bites have managed to penetrate through clothing.
We understand that some children may be more susceptible to mosquito bites and may develop itchy red lumps in response. Therefore, we have measures in place to address their discomfort. At school, we offer the application of ice packs to help reduce swelling and provide relief for these children.
As the HK government has gazetted the public holidays for 2025, we are attaching the final 2024/25 school calendar (LINK).
Please note that there will be a separate orientation schedule for K1s and K2s for the first weeks of the term. The first day of school for K2s is scheduled for Monday, August 19. We will share more details with parents before the summer.
We appreciate the overwhelming interest and support shown by many parents who have already signed up. However, we kindly request your understanding and cooperation regarding the purpose of this event. Our intention is for other carers/ family members to see your child's capabilities and to encourage them to be independent at home, too. By allowing your child's helper, aunt/uncle, or grandparents to join, we create an inclusive and nurturing environment where these individuals can feel truly appreciated for their unique role in our children's lives. Our goal is for them to see the children's amazing progress and to support transferring these skills from school to the home setting. Term 3 Open Days will run between 20-23 May; please refer to the separate app message to sign up.
We are excited to remind you that we have planned the K1 Celebration of Learning event in June, specifically designed for parents. This event will provide you with an opportunity to witness and celebrate your child's progress and accomplishments throughout the school year.

It is important to note that the children will NOT receive an oral check-up at Hillside, but they will have an oral health talk and learn about the importance of cleaning our teeth!
