Dear Hillside Families
We can't be more proud! Both of our K1 and K2 children submitted collaborative pieces that featured in the ESF Art Exhibition. If you have time, please do join us for this wonderful celebration of the children’s creativity and talent at Exhibition Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.
There are colourful murals, imaginative sculptures, and heartwarming portraits - these are just some of the amazing student creations featured in the exhibition. This year’s theme - Faster, Higher, Stronger - was inspired by the upcoming Paris Olympics and is all about humans and their extraordinary power to achieve and strive to be the best they can be. Across ESF, hundreds of our students from K1 to Year 13 have been hugely inspired and have created an outstanding collection of artwork spanning painting, digital art, photography, mixed media, and more.
What a wonderful way to start our end of year celebrations!
Warm regards
Audrey
A friendly reminder for our K2 families with children transitioning to an ESF primary school to attend the transition day this Friday. Children are welcome to return back to Hillside after their transition day. However, the morning will be a big and exciting event for the children, and it can be overwhelming and tiring. Some children may not return to Hillside to rest and recharge after their school visits. This will give them the opportunity to process their experiences, talk and reflect on their feelings, and we encourage you to discuss their new routines while it's fresh in their mind. Have a great time, K2s, and we look forward to hearing all about big school from your child!
To support our current K1s moving up to K2s, we are working on a webpage to help the K1 children prepare for their new K2 experience. We are also planning an opportunity for the K1 to meet their new K2 teachers and friends. As well as visit their new classroom before the summer. More details are coming soon.
For the upcoming academic year, we will be hosting parent-teacher meetings or "Getting to Know Your Child" sessions from 14-15 August. These sessions are a great opportunity for you to meet with your child's teacher and share any insights into your child with us. We will also be hosting a K2 Family Meet and Greet on 16 August for families to visit Hillside together, see the classrooms and meet the staff before the K2 children's official start on Monday, 19 August. However, for our K1 children, we will be implementing a staggered timetable. In addition, the class will be split in half for small-group orientation.
We will provide you with more specific details regarding each class timetable as soon as we finalise plans and staff recruitment. Again, we thank you for your patience.
We understand that the start of the school year can be a busy and exciting time for families, and we want to ensure that everyone is well-prepared and informed. Please keep an eye out for further updates and information regarding these events. Thank you for your continued support and partnership with us.
Building Resilience Through Play: Strategies for Supporting Anxious and Shy Children
Thank you for attending the exclusive talk we organised for our families featuring Dr. Melissa Giglio, a child clinical psychologist, anxiety specialist, and author, at Hillside School.
During the session, Dr. Giglio shared invaluable strategies for supporting your child when they are experiencing anxiety or feeling shy. She emphasised the power of positive interactions during play at home to reduce anxiety while strengthening the parent-child relationship. Additionally, Dr. Giglio provided practical insights on fostering communication skills in a fun and nurturing environment.
For your convenience, we are pleased to share the video link and slides from Dr. Giglio's presentation.
Thank you once again for your participation, and I hope you find the resources beneficial in supporting your child.
