Dear Hillside Families
We thank all families who joined us for the K1 and K2 Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs). Your active participation is genuinely appreciated, and we hope you found the sessions helpful in understanding your child's progress.
The children are excitedly buzzing as they prepare for their end-of-year Celebration of Learning. They have been working hard and are eager to showcase their achievements. Please mark your calendar for these upcoming dates. K1 families, please remember to sign up for your timeslot. Thank you for your continuous support and encouragement as they approach this special event.
Warm regards
Audrey
As mentioned in the recent parent newsletter, we will be keeping the K1 children together and moving them up as a class to K2. Here is the K1 to K2 class transition plan:
- Dolphin > Turtle (Teacher: Jen Fausset)
- Frog > Tiger (Teacher: Amy Lau)
- Monkey > Dragon (Teacher: Juliet Kenyon)
- Panda > Gecko (Teacher: Ammie Pierpoint)
*Please note we are still finalising recruitment, so teaching teams are yet to be confirmed*
Similar to the K2 to Y1 transition practice, on Monday, 24 June, we will arrange for the K2 teacher to visit the K1 class. We will also organise handover sessions for the K1 and K2 teachers.
Wednesday, 26 June, will be our K1 to K2 transition day, where the K1 children will visit their new K2 classrooms and spend time with their new K2 teachers. The K1 children can wear their new K2 class stickers. For those children not staying with us in K2, we will provide them with another sticker so they will feel included.
The ESF Admissions Team will share information on the 2025-26 Y1 transition process after the summer break. Most primary schools will offer open days in August/ September. Once we have information for the new academic year, we will share all the information with parents in due course.
Jockey Club Oral Health Project is visiting Hillside on Thursday, 13 June, to educate the K1s & K2s on proper oral hygiene through a diversified teaching approach, using a mix of workshops, games, and interactive activities. We look forward to this fun opportunity for children to develop their self-management skills!
We are taking steps to be more sustainable as a school. As such, we would like to provide a forum for interested parents to donate and purchase preloved uniform items at a nominal price. All proceeds will go to enhancing our incursion provision for the children.
If you are interested in donating, please send the preloved uniform items to school any time from now onwards. K1 families can visit our pop-up store at Hillside on 19 & 26 June.
With the start of the very hot weather season in Hong Kong, it is essential to revisit our 'No Hat – No Play' Sun Protection Policy.
Hats are essential for outdoor play and should be accessible in your child's school bag daily. Water is available for children at all times. We strongly advise you to apply sunscreen on your child before arriving at school.
Please note we follow the EDB and HK Observatory guidelines regarding hot weather warnings. When the weather is too hot for outdoor play, our teachers will adjust outdoor time, and indoor play will be rearranged to accommodate these times.
Hillside has a lovely big outdoor play area. If your child is susceptible to mosquito bites, we highly encourage applying insect repellent or patches on your child. To alleviate the problem of mosquitoes outdoors, we continue to work with our exterminator to combat the issue effectively.
With unexpected rainstorms in the forecast, we kindly remind all families of our weather policy to ensure the safety and well-being of all our children.
As you are aware, the weather can be unpredictable during these months, with the possibility of rainstorms, typhoons, and other weather events. In the event of severe weather, we may need to modify our school day to ensure the safety of our community. Our policy follows the guidelines set by the relevant authorities (EDB and HKO), and we will monitor the weather conditions closely and keep parents informed of updates via the ESF App messaging system.
Please also ensure that your contact information is up-to-date so we can reach you in case of an emergency. In the event of a Red/ Black Rainstorm, the school buses will not operate as per ESF policy, and all parents will need to arrange to collect their children from Hillside.
