Dear Hillside Families
We're delighted to report that the new school year is off to a fantastic start. The K2 floor is brimming with excitement, and the children are eager to embark on their new unit of inquiry. We are proud that most of our K1 children have adapted to their new routines, with a few new children still adjusting to their surroundings. Your continued support has been invaluable in ensuring a smooth transition for everyone.
As we move forward, more children are using the school bus. A warm reminder: if you plan to make any changes to your child's transportation arrangements, please inform both the bus company and the school Admin Team (via the app) or call us for any last-minute adjustments.
We are still ironing out home-bound bus routines as many K1 children have started this week, and they take a little longer to get organised for the buses, causing a slight delay in departure. We have liaised with Kwoon Chung (KCM), our outsourced bus company, and requested that they pay attention to details concerning safety concerns. For example, all parties hold the most up-to-date and accurate information: name lists, bus timetables, and bus stops. We continue to provide feedback on communication - while we appreciate that they are inundated with enquiries, it is essential to maintain and provide timely communication. We will continue to follow up with KCM as we work through the bus arrangements, and we ask you to please bear with us in the interim.
Warm regards
Audrey
At Hillside, we are strongly committed to partnership with our parents. Building a strong home-school partnership is always one of our school priorities.
As mentioned in the recent parent session, we would like to call for two class parent volunteers to assist in building a family-school partnership. The Hillside Senior Leadership Team will support the Class Parents in coordinating and facilitating various activities.
The Class Parent's Role:
If you are interested in becoming a Class Parent, please read this Hillside Class Parent Guideline and complete this Google form to express your interest.
During their Chinese day, the children will learn about the Mid-Autumn Festival through stories and various learning engagements over the next few weeks. We have planned a Dress Casual Day on Friday, September 13, to share the festivities and fun with the whole school community.
Instead of their regular school uniform, we invite children to wear bright and colourful clothes and the option to bring their own lanterns to school. Some children might have made their own paper lanterns at school earlier in the week, and they're most welcome to showcase these! If your child brings a store-bought lantern, please ensure it is child-friendly, safe, and easy to handle. We kindly request parents and carers label their child's lantern with their name and class to avoid confusion. We look forward to our first Dress Casual day of the year!
Thank you to parents and carers who joined us for the webinar earlier today to further understand learning within the PYP framework in the early years. We hope it was a helpful introduction to the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Here are the slides and webinar recording. We value your thoughts and feedback and would greatly appreciate you giving us time to complete this survey. Your input will help us to plan future parent sessions. Many thanks!
As educators, we understand the importance of keeping you informed about your child's progress in their learning and development journey. Communication is key, and we have various ways to ensure regular updates and meaningful interactions. Below is a timeline overview of how we keep you informed through various channels as we firmly commit to creating a strong two-way home-school partnership that nurtures your child's growth and development. We want to reiterate that there is no need to wait for a formal invite. Don’t hesitate to contact your child's class teacher directly so we can work together to meet your child's needs.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in staying vigilant and keeping our community safe. On this note, we remind families of our "Zero Tolerance Policy" towards spreading illness at Hillside illness at Hillside. While we understand that wearing a mask can help prevent the spread of disease, it is not a substitute for staying home when sick. When a child is feeling unwell, they must stay home to rest and recover. Therefore, please do not send children to school if they have a fever or symptoms of respiratory illness.
Sending a sick child to school with a mask on can increase the risk of spreading disease to others, including teachers and classmates. Hence, we will send children home if they come to school with a fever, runny nose or a continuous cough. These procedures are in place to protect everyone at school. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school community healthy and safe.
As you know, the weather can be unpredictable during this time of year. To ensure the safety and well-being of all our children, we kindly remind you of our inclement weather procedures.
Our school follows the guidelines set by the relevant authorities (EDB and HKO). We will monitor the weather conditions closely and update you via the ESF App messaging system.
Please ensure your contact information is up-to-date so we can reach you in an emergency.
In the event of a Red or Black Rainstorm, the school buses will not operate as per ESF policy. All parents will need to arrange to collect their children from Hillside. We will keep parents informed via our App messaging system.
