Dear Hillside Families
Happy Lunar New Year, as we welcome the Year of the Snake! May this year bring prosperity, health, and happiness to our families.
I want to share a few highlights from the ESF All-Staff Conference that took place yesterday, where staff from all ESF schools gathered for the first time since ESF's founding in 1967. It was a great opportunity to connect and collaborate.
Our CEO, Belinda Greer, and panel speakers spoke about ESF's three strategic drivers - agility, alignment, and accountability - underpinned by three key priority areas:
Our keynote speaker, Dr Adam Fraser, delivered an engaging session on how small behaviours can drive meaningful cultural change. With over 20 years of research, he shared that human behaviour is contagious, and aligning our actions with our values can transform our organisational culture.
He posed thought-provoking questions: "What positive ripples should you create more of? What negative ones must you stop?" These reflections are incredibly relevant in early education, where the behaviours we model for our children can shape their learning experiences and future interactions.
At the conference, we also unveiled a first look at the new ESF school websites, designed to highlight our achievements and values - the official launch will be next week. Watch this space!
Warm regards,
Audrey
Your child's How the World Works Unit of Inquiry report is now available for viewing. Please refer to the graphics below to access your child's report. When viewing the report, we invite those parents interested in contributing by adding your comment in the "parent response to learning" box.
To enrich both year level’s Unit of Inquiry Sharing the Planet, we’ve invited Rise Wise Foundation & their gentle therapy dogs to visit Hillside and share their knowledge around how to be responsible and take care of pet animals, as well as how we can safely approach dogs when we see them out and about! If your child is especially nervous around dogs, please let your class teacher know so we can seat them accordingly.
Dates:
11 Feb - K1 classes
18 Feb - K2 classes
We have planned an incursion with Curiosity Kids as a provocation into our next unit “How the World Works”. Our central idea is centred around scientific observations and investigations, and the children actively construct new understandings of our world. This incursion is planned to support their understanding of these concepts and nurture their research skills. The children will engage in a ‘science lab’ at school, exploring colour science and investigating bubbles!
Dates:17 Feb - Frog
18 Feb - Panda
19 Feb - Monkey
20 Feb - Dolphin
We are calling out for any old or unwanted Lego or Duplo pieces you may have. Our Lego Drive aims to enhance our school collection, providing children more opportunities to build and create.
