Dear Hillside Families,
What an incredibly busy Term 2 it has been! It’s always a joy to witness the growth of our children’s self-confidence during this time, and we’re thrilled to see them thriving as they prepare for Term 3. We are truly grateful for our dedicated community, which includes our teachers, EAs, administrators, parents, and, of course, the children themselves. Together, through our shared commitment to an engaging, high-quality, play-based, inquiry-driven programme, we are making a significant impact on the children’s learning experiences.
We wish you a joyful Spring break with your family. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, 22 April.
Warm regards
Audrey
Thank you for taking the time to complete our stakeholder survey. We’ve identified core themes that were echoed in multiple comments and put together two quick visual summaries. Overall, the sentiment expressed in the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. However, we acknowledge that the school bus service remains a significant concern for many parents.
As you may recall, the bus service is currently under tender, and we are actively working to address your concerns. We will be recruiting parent representatives to join us in meetings with the bus company to ensure your voices are heard. Additionally, we will be convening with our entire staff to discuss the feedback received and explore ways we can improve our provision moving forward. Your input is invaluable in helping us enhance the overall experience for our families.
Thank you once again for your continued support and engagement. Together, we are nurturing a vibrant and enriching environment for our children.
While the general Stakeholder Survey feedback was positive, however, we acknowledge that the school bus service remains a recurring concern. Many parents have expressed frustration regarding its reliability, safety, and communication. We will be sharing your feedback with KCM. If any parents are interested in being a parent representative for our next meeting with the bus company, please reach out to our Bus Liaison Admin, Vicky Mahtani, via kinder@hillside.edu.hk. We will connect with you once with have the meeting date and time confirmed in Term 3.
We’re pleased to inform you that your child's How the World Works Unit of Inquiry report is now available for viewing. Please refer to the graphics below to access your child's report. We encourage all parents to take a look and, if you wish, to add your comments in the "parent response to learning" box. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to support your child's learning journey.
The children have made remarkable strides in their play, learning, and social interactions this year, and we’re excited to invite you to join us in celebrating their growth and accomplishments. There will be numerous opportunities for parent participation in Term 3, so please keep an eye on this space for updates.
We will extend more dates for parents and caregivers to participate in Community Play after the term break. Please look out for a separate app message with your class-specific sign-up sheet. We hope to see you at Hillside soon!
Following on from the vision screening and recognising the importance of early intervention, we have scheduled a Hearing Screening at Hillside with ENTlaser Hearing and Speech Therapy Centre.
TEST - Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
What it is: OAEs are sounds given off by the inner ear in response to an auditory stimuli. These sounds are produced by the hair cells and can be measured automatically by a handheld portable device. The measured frequencies are 2k, 3k, 4k and 5k Hz. These frequencies are tested as they are most susceptible to hearing loss and crucial for speech and language development.
Duration: approximately 3-4 minutes per child
Results: If a child passes, results indicate that he/she has normal hearing (or mild hearing loss at most) and do not have any middle ear issues. If a child fails, results indicate that he/she needs to have a full diagnostic test at clinic to determine whether there is a presence of middle ear issues (which can be corrected with medication) or sensorineural hearing loss and determine whether there is a need for aural rehabilitation.
The screening is optional, and registration is via this Eventbrite link
If you want to sign your child up for this optional screening, please register by 22 April.
