Dear Hillside Families,
Welcome to Term 3, our favourite term of the year! We hope you all had a fantastic Spring break and that your children are now refreshed and eager to embark on a fulfilling term of learning filled with excitement and fun!
We encourage you to visit your child's class blog to stay informed about updates and the latest Unit of Inquiry. Simply click on the Class Blog tile on the ESF App to access your child's class blog. Both class and Chinese teachers will update the blog with photos and information about your child's recent learning in class. We hope you take the time to explore these blogs and class albums at home, as this will foster a stronger connection between the school and your family.
Thank you to all the parents who actively participated and volunteered during the last term. We feel incredibly fortunate to have such enthusiastic parental involvement, as it greatly enriches the teaching and learning experiences. We will start this term by extending more dates for parents and caregivers to participate and contribute to Community Play. Please look out for a separate ESF app message with your class-specific sign-up sheet. We hope to see you at Hillside soon!
Warm regards
Audrey
Please be reminded that 2 May is designated as a Continuous Professional Development Day for our staff, and there will be no school for the children on this day. Our focus will be on enhancing our school improvement plans, reflecting on the recent stakeholder survey, and identifying any instructional challenges to improve learning and teaching. We are excited to have the ESF Director of Education, Mark Blackshaw, and the ESF Teaching and Learning Advisor, JP Adamson, joining us for the morning session.
In the afternoon, we’ll delve into how to effectively use our physical and outdoor play equipment, with the guidance of an Occupational Therapist from SPOT. This day is a valuable opportunity for our staff to grow and enhance their skills, ultimately benefiting our children’s learning experiences.
In celebration of Book Week, we encourage children to express themselves through stories by dressing up as a book character of their choice on Friday, 25 April. We invite them to bring the corresponding book to share with their friends. Inspiration can come from any fiction or non-fiction book. Let your creativity shine! However, we kindly request that children refrain from wearing costumes based on Disney or Marvel characters, as we want to focus on promoting literacy and a love of books. We’ve included some pictures from last year for inspiration!
We’re all very excited for this fun event and we especially appreciate parent support in helping your children prepare for the special dress-up day.
We would like to provide you with a Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC) opportunity to meet with your child’s Chinese teacher, either Yammi Lao Shi or Joey Lao Shi. You will have a choice of 2 Fridays.

Zoom appointments are about 10 minutes long for each child. Please appreciate that these are the dates when we have arranged cover for teachers, and we would like to keep to them as much as possible.
As we enter Term 3 and transition into the Spring/Summer season, we want to remind you of our weather policy, which prioritises the safety and well-being of all our children.
These months can bring unpredictable weather conditions, including rainstorms, typhoons, and other erratic weather patterns in Hong Kong. In the event of severe weather, we may need to make adjustments to our school day to ensure the safety of our entire community. Our policy adheres to the guidelines set by the relevant authorities (EDB and HKO). Rest assured that we will closely monitor weather conditions and keep you updated through the ESF App messaging system.
As a friendly reminder, please ensure your children are dressed appropriately for the Spring and Summer weather and equipped with necessary protection such as sunscreen, hats, and mosquito repellent. Additionally, please ensure that your contact information is up-to-date so we can reach you promptly in case of an emergency.
Based on the Stakeholder Survey feedback, we acknowledge that the school bus service remains a recurring concern. Many parents have expressed frustration regarding its reliability, safety, and communication. We will be sharing your feedback with KCM. If any parents are interested in being a parent representative for our next meeting with KCM, please reach out to kinder@hillside.edu.hk to express your interest.
