Dear Hillside Families
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I want to share some resources to support children in their social-emotional development. At this age, children are developing rapidly and may experience a range of emotions as they navigate new experiences and challenges, especially with the transition ahead.
It’s important to help your child build resilience and emotional intelligence by teaching them self-regulation skills. Simple techniques like deep breathing exercises and positive self-talk (think "The Power of Yet") can be incredibly beneficial. By prioritising children's mental health and wellbeing, we can help them establish a strong foundation for future success and happiness.
Social-emotional development and building friendships are vital aspects of overall wellbeing. These concepts can be both exciting and challenging for our little ones. Please check our social media posts on Friendships & Play Skills [IG: @esf.hillside]. We hope you find it useful.
Warm regards
Audrey
We are pleased to announce that sign-ups for both K1 and K2 Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) are now available.
19-22 May: K2 PTCs
26-29 May: K1 PTCs
These meetings will take place via Zoom, so please remember to join from a quiet space to avoid any audio issues. Classes will continue as usual for the children throughout the PTC week.
As we enter the hot weather season in Hong Kong, it’s essential to revisit our Sun Protection Policy.
Hats are crucial for outdoor play and should be accessible in your child's school bag daily. Water will always be available for children. We strongly advise applying sunscreen on your child before arriving at school.
Please note that we follow the EDB and HK Observatory guidelines regarding hot weather warnings. When the weather is too hot for outdoor play, our teachers will adjust outdoor times, and indoor play will be rearranged accordingly.
Hillside has a lovely big outdoor play area. If your child is prone to mosquito bites, we encourage you to apply insect repellent or patches before school. We continue to work with our exterminator to effectively manage the mosquito issue outdoors.
With unexpected rainstorms in the forecast, we kindly remind all families of our weather policy to ensure the safety and well-being of all our children.
Please also ensure that your contact information is up-to-date so we can reach you in case of an emergency. In the event of a Red/ Black Rainstorm, the school buses will not operate as per ESF policy, and all parents will need to arrange to collect their children from Hillside.
The weather can be unpredictable during these months, with the possibility of rainstorms, typhoons, and other weather events. In the event of severe weather, we may need to modify our school day to ensure the safety of our community. Our policy follows the guidelines set by the relevant authorities (EDB and HKO), and we will monitor the weather conditions closely and keep parents informed of updates via the ESF App messaging system.
Is your child growing up with two languages?
