Dear Hillside Families,

We want to extend warm wishes to those who celebrated Mother's Day this past weekend. We acknowledge that not all families observe the same holidays, which is why we take this opportunity to highlight the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Hillside. We are committed to creating inclusive classroom environments where every child and family feels welcomed, respected, and valued. We achieve this through experiences celebrating diversity, such as reading books with diverse characters and families, integrating cultural traditions and holidays into our curriculum, and encouraging children to share their unique experiences and viewpoints. We should distinguish between learning about holidays and actively celebrating them, recognising that people may observe the same holiday in various ways.

We encourage children to express their appreciation for all the special people in their lives. By embracing our differences and sharing our gratitude, we foster a sense of unity and inclusivity within our school community. Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment at Hillside.

We are delighted to invite parents to join our K1 End-of-Year Celebration of Learning - Art Day, which will be held on 19 June at Hillside for all K1 classes. Please take note of the following details:

• This is not a normal full-session school day. Children and parents will only attend during their chosen time slot.
• Families are invited for a 1-hour session. AM slots: 9:00/10:30; PM slots: 1:15/2:45. Please look out for a separate app message to sign up soon.
• Non-uniform: Children are welcome to express their unique style and personality through their outfit choices.
• We invite up to 2 grown-ups to accompany their child to Art Day.
• Please be reminded that we are unable to provide parking.
• There will be no bus service on that day, and we ask for your understanding and assistance on this exceptional occasion.

We look forward to the children sharing their learning with you on this special day!

We are also thrilled to invite parents to join our K2 End-of-Year Celebration of Learning on 20 June at Hillside for all classes. The children have learnt new skills, made new friends, and grown in so many ways, and we are proud of all they have accomplished. We look forward to celebrating with you and your child on this special day!

• To minimise the interruption to our regular programme, the celebrations will take place on Friday, 20 June, for all classes.
• This is not a normal full-session school day, so please note your time slot below.
• The event will take place in two of the K2 classrooms.
• Children should wear the Hillside uniform for this event.
• Due to space and seating limitations, we kindly ask that each child be accompanied by only two adult family members.
• Please be reminded that we are unable to provide parking.
• We appreciate your understanding that your child cannot catch the school bus for one of the journeys (to OR from school) on this exceptional occasion.

It is important to note that children and parents will only attend during their allocated celebration time. Please note your session below.

We’ve invited author Diana Jou and illustrator KaiChin Chang to Hillside for a special event for the K1 children on Tuesday, May 20. They will be sharing their wonderful book, Thank You Auntie, reading it in both English and Mandarin. This is a fantastic opportunity to further enrich our curriculum and celebrate our school's translanguaging practices. To make this event even more meaningful, we invite you to drop a photo of your child with their auntie or helper in this album. We may share some of these heartwarming pictures during the visit. If you'd like to own a copy of "Thank You Auntie", it is available for purchase at Bookazine.

For the next four weeks, one of Hong Kong's iconic trams will be trundling back and forth across the island, showcasing beautiful artwork created by ESF Renaissance College students from Year 1 to Year 13. This exciting project celebrates creativity, culture, and community, demonstrating what's possible when students connect and collaborate through a shared passion.

"Our students are incredibly creative and express themselves with great skill and confidence," says our CEO, Belinda Greer. "How wonderful that the whole of Hong Kong gets to enjoy the art of our talented students through this exciting project. Well done to our students and the dedicated staff who worked so hard to make this happen."
