Dear Parents
It looks like it will be another fairly wet week this week, but it hasn’t stopped the children from being excited about coming to school. On those very wet days, we will have to change some of our pick-up or drop-off routines to keep everyone dry (or as dry as possible). You might also consider purchasing a school raincoat that is designed to keep your child’s school bag dry too.
On this note, please be informed that there is now a new sun hat option. Members of our community expressed an interest in having a 'baseball cap' style sun hat for outdoor play, and we have managed to ask our supplier to make this available. The baseball caps will be for sale over the summer in readiness for the new academic year.
New uniform can be purchased directly from Aston Wilson Ltd. For a full list of all uniform items, prices, or to place an order, please visit their website [Web Link]
If you are interested in buying, selling or giveaway second-hand uniforms, please leave a post HERE to connect with other parents.
Kind regards
Audrey & the Hillside Team
We are currently working on our 2021/22 school calendar. Based on the experience from last year, the one positive thing that came out of the zoom sessions was that the children had an opportunity to see and meet everyone online (without face masks) before coming to school in person. The children had a good sense of what it would be like before actually coming, and even remembered the names of many teachers/ adults from school.
We also had feedback from both parents and teachers that the initial 1:1 parent-teacher meetings were very useful. Therefore, we would like to explore ways to incorporate all the positive elements into our new start of year schedule.
The K1 children will have an opportunity to meet their new teachers before the summer break. We have a video of Suzie and Stripey talking about the move to K2, please take a look when you have time. We are also working on an induction website with all relevant information for children and parents to access over the summer. We will be sharing the new calendar with the class lists in due course. In the meantime, please refer to this DRAFT calendar for school dates.
Thank you to parents who were able to attend the webinar on “Resilience in the time of COVID-19” with Dr Eva Chen from the HK University of Science and Technology. Some of you have asked for a recording of the webinar, Eva has kindly agreed to share it with us HERE.
During the webinar, Eva gave us a crash course on:
the history and research on socioemotional development;
kinds of challenges we face;
how resilient are children in the face of challenges, and
how to build resilience in children.
It was interesting to learn about this topic from a researcher’s perspective. We hope you found it useful, especially during these unprecedented pandemic days. If you would like to participate in Dr Chen’s research, please scan the QR codes below.
