25 June: K1 Children Meet their K2 Teachers
28-29 June: End of Year Celebrations (Children Only, Non-Uniform Day)
29 June: Last Day of School
30 June: Start of Summer Break
Dear Parents
It is hard to believe we have less than two weeks left before the end of this academic year. We still have lots to do before the end of term. I know many classes have been busy preparing for their end of year celebrations and teachers are busy putting photo albums together to share with our parents. Don’t forget that both the K1 and K2 children are invited to come in any outfit that expresses themselves on 28 & 29 June.
A quick update on the school photos. Peter is finalising the last class collage and we hope to share the photo proofs with parents over the next few days. You will have the option to order a digital file or printed photos, and we will courier them to you during the summer.Warm regards
Audrey and the Hillside team
We will be meeting everyone online on 18 August 2021. The first official onsite day will be Monday 23 August. All K2 children will return to school on this day.
The Hong Kong government has now gazetted the 2022 public holidays. please refer to this final calendar for school dates.
Based on the experience from last year, the one positive thing that came out of the zoom sessions was that the children had an opportunity to see and meet everyone online (without face masks) before coming to school in person. The children had a good sense of what it would be like before actually coming, made connections with others and even remembered the names of a few classmates and teachers from school.
We also had feedback from both parents and teachers that the initial 1:1 parent-teacher meetings were beneficial. Therefore, we decided to incorporate these positive elements into our new start of year schedule. Teachers will host "you tell us" sessions with parents to learn more about the children during that initial week. The children will then be Zooming with their class to start connections before the official onsite start of school. All zoom links will be shared with parents in August.
We have also front-loaded our CPD days in August for this academic year, so there won't be any further impact on the children's school days for the remainder of the school year.
Your child’s end-of-year report is now available for viewing. Please refer to the graphics below to access your child’s report. We would like parents to refer to the Hillside VLE regularly and also contribute to your child’s learning journey records by adding your comments. For this new report, we are inviting those parents interested to contribute by adding your comment in the "parent response to learning" box.
On behalf of everyone at Hillside, please let us all wish Aylish (Gecko Class teacher), Dan (Gecko class EA), and Isabella (Frog class EA), all the best and a happy farewell. All three of them will be leaving Hillside to embark on their new adventures. Some of you might still get to see Aylish, as she will be the Y1 teacher at Kennedy School. Dan will be relocating with his family and Isabella will be starting her teaching studies in the UK.
We are truly grateful to have them as part of our community and we will sorely miss all these wonderful people. I’m sure you will all join us to wish them the very best in the next chapter of their lives. If you pass by, do find a chance to say good-bye over the next few days.
2021/2022 bus registration is now open for application.
1. For children who require bus service for the new academic year:
Please submit the application online via [Web Link]esfhs at your earliest convenience<before July 2, 2021 (Friday), since the bus application will not be automatically renewed from the last school year.
2. For children who do not require bus service for the new academic year: Please email esfhs@kcm.com.hk with a withdrawal to be removed from the contact list.
P.S. Due to the uncertainty of the pandemic situation in HK, parents may require more time to consider if the service is required. Given sufficient time is required for hiring and training sufficient drivers, escorts and planning the routings to prepare schedules and bus cards for parents and students, KCM will be much grateful if parents who are highly likely to require the service to kindly sign up on time!
There will be some maintenance work underway during the summer months. One of the significant maintenance projects is the revamp of our playground. We will be opening up the playground space further and extending it to the back to connect with the Bradbury back playground. This will create opportunities for Hillside and Bradbury to share learning space and experiences in the new academic year.
Other works will include the expansion of the current Turtle class to create more learning spaces for the children and revamping the pantry for our site support team.
